ZYGO is a deep tech robotics software company founded in West Flanders, Belgium. Built on over a decade of academic research in autonomous systems, we develop AI software that makes robots reliable, compliant, and deployable at enterprise scale. Our operating system, ZYGOS, runs across quadrupeds, marine drones, and whatever robot fits the job, so you're never locked into one vendor's roadmap. You pick the hardware. We handle the rest.
ZYGO's story
July 2023: ZYGO is founded
After spending years in research on smart tech and autonomous systems, Erik van Winkel and Arne Depuydt came to the conclusion that one insight kept coming back: industries across Belgium and Europe weren't just asking for smarter robots but they were asking for robots that could handle more than one task. In the summer of 2023, they made the leap from research to entrepreneurship and founded ZYGO in Zonnebeke, Belgium.
2024 - 2025: Building mode
ZYGO works on different robotics and AI projects, including a first field experience with Interreg Crossroads, which puts us in the field designing autonomous systems for maritime drone operations.
February 2026: Seed-funding
After closing seed-funding from BeAngels, JK Invest and other parties, ZYGO is ready to accelerate. The team grows quickly and the first commercial ZYGO product is within view.
April 2026: Launching Protector
Shortly after announcing the official partnership with inMotion Robotic, ZYGO launches Protector, an autonomous quadruped to support security teams.

ZYGO partners with inMotion Robotic for the deployment of ZYGO Protector, a quadruped who navigates stairs, slopes, and obstacles with unmatched agility. It’s 360° awareness and advanced autonomy make it the perfect solution for complex security tasks.
AI-Blox
ZYGO partners with AI-Blox to enable edge deployments. Their modular, industrial-grade edge AI hardware is designed for exactly the environments ZYGO operates in: harsh conditions, mobile platforms, and applications that demand reliable on-board processing. Their hardware allows us to give robots an AI brain they can count on in the field.
Investors & backers
Since our first days in 2023 until now, ZYGO has had the support of multiple start-up networks and deeptech communities, including NVIDIA's Inception Program for start-ups. In February 2026, ZYGO received further support from a select group of investors.
